Boost Your Sleep: Stop Hitting the Snooze Button

Improve Your Sleep Productivity, Stop Hitting the Snooze Button

Hitting the snooze button for 10 more minutes of sleep can seem like a win, but the reality is that you are losing the sleep battle.

The quality of sleep you get in a snooze interval is extremely low. Typically, you’ll wake up even more groggy and tired than you would if you’d initially gotten out of bed after the first alarm. Snooze buttons only give the body time to achieve a light sleep instead of the restorative, restful deep sleep we all crave.

Try these strategies shared by Fast Company to kick your snooze button habit to the curb:

  • Wake up at the right time: Our bodies through cycles of deeper and lighter sleep. Getting up during deep sleep is more painful than during light sleep. Keep in mind that sleep cycles typically last 90 minutes. Set your alarm at 90 minute interval to make waking up easier on yourself.
  • Create a new morning habit: Following a routine will make it easier to get out bed. The habits will become so ingrained over time that you won’t have time to think about hitting the snooze button. Try moving your alarm clock away from the bed so that’ll you’ll have to get up to turn it off an laying your clothes out in advance.
  • Feel free to sleep in. Instead of hitting the snooze button multiple times, just extend your alarm out to the appropriate time you really need to get up.
  • Bribe yourself: Find things you are excited about and apply them to your morning routine. Bought a new book? Only allow yourself to read it in the mornings. Love coffee? Get a programmable coffeemaker to be placed near your bedroom to allow the aroma to tempt you with that reward.Make failure difficult: Purchase a clock that doesn’t have a snooze button to remove the temptation. Plan things you can’t miss such as study time, an early meeting or getting your children up at a certain time.

It can be hard to break habits but with determination and willpower, you can do anything you set your mind to. We at Gallery Furniture support you and will guide you the best way we can to help reach your goals. Sleep is a great place to start!
