Many people fall asleep easily at night and sleep for a reasonable amount of time, yet wake up tired. UARS; also known as the Upper Airway Resistance Syndrome could be to blame.

The condition of UARS is a relatively new discovery, and it is now beginning to receive more attention. Sleep apnea on the other hand, has been well-known and studied for some time. The most common causes for UARS are nasal congestion and also tongue position while sleeping. A French study found almost half of all of the studied women diagnosed with chronic insomnia and experiencing daytime fatigue turned out to have UARS. Over-the-counter breathing strips and nasal dilators may be effective in treating UARS. If UARS sounds like it may apply to symptoms that you are encountering and the previously mentioned over-the-counter solutions are not working, ask your doctor for a referral to an ENT (ear, nose, and throat) specialist.
