Researchers from Center for Child Health, Behavior and Development in Seattle, Washington found that by swapping out violent TV shows, and video games with educational material showed a reduction in sleep problems.

While many have long-since thought that exposing young children to violent broadcasts could have a negative impact on them, this study shows an immediate one. Those children that participated in the “media intervention” were significantly less likely to experience any sleep problem after 18 months. Sleep problems could include: taking a long time to fall asleep, waking up in the middle of the night, etc.

While there is much more work to be done on this subject, this study indicates that parents should pay more attention to what their children watch on television, as it can have adverse effects on their sleep.
