Many people turn to pharmaceutical aids for help sleeping. In this new video, Cara Santa Maria sheds light on some of the possible side effects of using Ambien to fall asleep.
Ambien is a sedative and has been implicated in a large number of disturbing sleep behaviors. Using Ambien affects the unbalanced chemicals in your brain that cause insomnia, and it also calms the nervous system. One of the possible side-effects of using Ambien is that it can cause anterograde amnesia. Anterograde amnesia is a loss of the ability to create new memories after the event that caused the amnesia. When this memory loss is paired with another side-effect of Ambien; sleepwalking, the results can be quite disturbing.
Ambien does help people treat insomnia when used under controlled supervision. Once taking Ambien, it can prove to be hard to quit. With the guidance of your doctor, you will have to decide if Ambien’s potential side-effects out-weigh your needs for sleeping.
