Millions of Americans have trouble falling—and staying—asleep every night. Unfortunately, they often turn to over the counter, and prescription medications to help them with this problem. However, there are a number of foods that can aid those that have difficulty falling asleep, as well as promote a healthy diet. Here are four of them:
Popcorn: Popcorn is often seen as a fattening, butter-lathered movie theater treat. But, when prepared correctly, it is not unhealthy. And it can help you get to sleep! Popcorn has tryptophan in it (just like Thanksgiving turkey!), which can induce drowsiness and ultimately help you doze off.
Cherry juice: Cherry juice is chock-full of melatonin, a chemical that occurs naturally in our bodies; and induces sleepiness. However, cherry juice is also a powerful antioxidant. This makes cherry juice twice as beneficial!
Bananas: Bananas contain magnesium, a muscle relaxing, organic chemical that is essential for our bodies. A great alternative to pain medications, bananas can help relax those sore muscles after a long day, helping your body ease into sleep. While this is not a complete list of foods that double as natural sleep aids, it is certainly enough to get you or your partner on the road to a healthier and more fulfilling sleep pattern!
