The American Journal of Epidemiology published a new study conducted by University of Wisconsin researchers relating to sleep loss experienced by parents. Research showed that mothers and fathers did not miss out on nearly as much sleep as they think they do.
Using data amassed from 1989 – 2008 by the Wisconsin Sleep Cohort Study, researchers found that parents with a child less than 2 years old lost 14 minutes of sleep per child, in a span of 24 hours. From the ages of 2 to 5, children were responsible for a loss of 9 minutes of sleep. Once children were between the ages of 6 to 18, parents lost only four minutes of sleep.
This is very surprising news, as many parents feel that they often sacrifice sleep to take care of children.
